10 things to know about Valencia Rollins

Asante’s newest health educator brings a winning spirit to health, fitness and nutrition.

In an ongoing series, Asante News features employees and leaders who recently joined the organization or have been promoted.

Combine a life coach, health coach, fitness trainer and former semi-pro athlete and you’ve got Valencia Rollins. She joined Asante’s Health Promotion team as a health educator in August, having moved from the Chicago area. She grew up in Long Beach, California.

Here are 10 things to know about Rollins:

Favorite activities: “Playing basketball, reading, watching movies, spending time with my family, singing, dancing, hiking, working out.”

The best thing about her job: “Helping people become the best version of themselves.”

How her co-workers describe her: “Happy and full of energy.”

Who inspires her: “My grandmother, because she lived her life on her own terms and didn’t care what other people thought about her.”

Claim to fame: “I played semi-professional women’s tackle football — right tackle!”

What she wanted to be when she grew up: “A drug enforcement agent.”

On her bucket list: “To visit Valencia, Spain; coach a championship-winning women’s basketball team; and box.”

Most memorable travel experience: “Leaving California right after high school and moving to Rock Springs, Wyoming, on a full-ride basketball scholarship. It was a cultural shock.”

Hidden talent: “I can speak Spanish.”

What would (wouldn’t?) surprise people about her: “I’m very competitive.”
