Guest speaker is Toby Campbell, MD, who presents on “Integrating Oncology and Palliative Care: What, Why and How.” Dr. Campbell is a thoracic medical oncologist in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at University of Wisconsin Department of Medicine.
He also is UW Health chief of Palliative Care and holds the Ellen and Peter O. Johnson Chair in Palliative Care. He served as the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program Director from 2010 to 2017, developing the program into a national program of excellence.
His clinical practice interests include lung cancer, symptom management, communication and palliative care. His research interests are in communication education, empathy, high-risk shared decision-making, and models of care for palliative care implementation.
His work on communication crosses a variety of disciplines and he has published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), JAMA Surgery, Annals of Surgery, Intensive Care Medicine, Patient Education and Counseling, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, and the Journal of Oncology Practice, among others.
