Keep those choppers healthy and earn rewards

Not only does preventive dental care save you pain and money, you can get a HealthEquity contribution by completing a dental exam.

Millions of people put off dental treatment during the pandemic, so why did some emerge with a still-healthy set of teeth? They took care of them. Preventive dental care — which includes brushing, flossing and eating a healthy diet — helps stop decay and other problems before they reach a critical and painful stage.

Brushing and flossing help to remove plaque from the surfaces and in between your teeth. A healthy diet is one that is low in sugar; this will keep your whole body, including your teeth and gums, in good shape. Now that dental offices have largely reopened, routine dental exams and regular cleanings may help prevent higher-cost treatments such as periodontal surgery, root canals, extractions and fillings.

The American Dental Association recommends taking these steps for good dental health:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three to four months.
  • Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner.
  • Eat a balanced diet, and limit soft drinks and between-meal snacks.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.

Did you know that you can earn contributions to your HealthEquity account if you have a preventive dental exam? The value of the incentive will vary based on which plan you are on. Individuals on the Asante PPO Health Plan will earn a $50 contribution; individuals on the Asante Savings Health Plan or the Asante Reimbursement Health Plan will receive a $100 contribution. Simply provide documentation of the exam to Human Resources, and the employer contribution will show in your HealthEquity account in about six weeks.

If you have any questions, you can email the Asante Benefits department or call (541) 789-4551. You can also submit a case in the Ask HR section of myHR.
