Asante News apologizes for image
A pandemic illustration that used Iwo Jima iconography caused offense among some employees.
In last week’s article about mandatory employee vaccination, Asante News chose an illustration that depicted doctors and nurses carrying a vaccine syringe up a hill. The intent was to show the dedication of health care workers on the front lines of fighting this pandemic, which has claimed more than 650,000 American lives.
Some employees, including those who served in the military, found the image and the context offensive to the memory of American soldiers who fought at Iwo Jima. For that, we apologize and we have removed the image from our web pages. — Asante News editorial team

Thank you
As Americans we are blessed to live in this great country. We are afforded the opportunity to express ourselves in many ways. There are countries that would behead their own citizens for making a political cartoon deemed to be in opposition to a government sanctioned opinion or defacing a patriotic iconic symbol. With that right to express an opinion, comes responsibility. These include preserving our history, and yes even our patriotism. Just remember the freedoms we enjoy today are because of our brave servicemen. No one will be beheaded for this and yes, you can thank our brave soldiers for that too! Thank you for your apology and thank you to all our past and present servicemen.
