APP–Midwifery Services going strong after five years
Every year in the United States the first week of October is celebrated as National Midwifery Week. This year’s theme was “A Midwife for Every Community.”
The Rogue Valley is fortunate to receive excellence in midwifery care offered by Asante Physician Partners Midwifery Services. We are a team of four certified nurse-midwives who hold privileges at Asante Ashland Community Hospital. There is a wealth of experience between us and we are passionate providers of the best care for families from a place of evidence and compassion.
Each year for the past five years our program has participated in a national benchmarking project with other midwife providers across the country. Benchmarking projects involve comparing processes and performance metrics to industry best standards and practices.
Client outcomes from the prior year are submitted to the national professional organization for midwives, the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Quality and Safety Committee.
Several areas of performance are analyzed and deemed a “best practice” based on the reported outcomes of labor and birth, status of newborns, breastfeeding and resource utilization. Comparisons between practices are based on practice volumes by number of births per year.
APP midwives recently were congratulated on their achievement of excellent outcomes in 2020 as a Triple Aim-achieving practice. The Triple Aim Best Practice award recognizes midwifery groups that meet the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “Triple Aim” of improvement, namely: improving client experience, reducing cost of care and improving the health of populations.
The ACNM values these outcomes, which are demonstrated by high breastfeeding rates, low preterm birth and cesarean rates, and consistent reporting of fiscal variables.
APP Midwifery Services opened its doors in 2016 with just a few wonderful families seeking midwifery care. We now are honored to assist with more than 125 births each year and to celebrate the growth of each of our many returning families.
Our clients come from all walks of life: nurses, lawyers, students, contractors, farmers, at-home parents, musicians and teachers. The midwives care for these growing families as if they were their own and provide thoughtful education and shared decision making, support in clients’ breastfeeding goals, and dedication to the midwifery model of care, while using interventions when necessary. We honor and thank all in our community who trust us and place their care in our able hands.

I am so proud to have these awesome women as part of our team. They provide exceptional patient care! It is am honor to work amongst such kind, compassionate and accomplished women.
Thank you so much, Courtney. We love our work. I feel that it was a calling for me to provide care for pregnant people, babies, gynecologic issues, & families. A vocation, not a job. Patricia
