Take charge: What is a health plan deductible?
When we talk about health benefits, we often use terms that you just don’t hear every day. One of those terms is deductible.
A deductible is the amount you must pay out of your own pocket each calendar year before the Asante Health Plan begins to pay. Some services, such as in-network preventive care, are covered by the Asante Health Plan before you meet your deductible. Based on the plan option chosen, other services could also have a co-pay amount apply, even if the deductible has not been met for the year.
After the annual deductible amount has been met, you usually pay only a percentage of the charges for covered services. The health plan pays the rest.
Generally, Asante Health Plan options with lower semimonthly contributions have higher deductibles, and options with higher contributions have lower deductibles.
When choosing an Asante Health Plan option, it’s important to estimate the medical services you and your family may use for the year ahead. It’s impossible to predict the exact amount, but you should take into account the semimonthly contributions, the annual deductible and more.
