Employee flu clinics begin Oct. 3

With COVID-19 masking rules eased in our communities, the risk of contracting the flu increases.

Asante’s annual employee flu immunization campaign kicks off Oct. 3 with vaccination clinics on hospital campuses.

Several flu-shot clinics are scheduled beginning on Monday with unit rounding planned throughout the fall. Tables will be set up in hospital open areas, so employees can get immunized on the spot, no appointment needed. Asante Physician Partners and Asante Contact Center employees will be offered flu shots at their facilities.

Once again, the theme is “Do it for them, do it for you” — a recognition that it’s important to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from flu.

Unlike past years, employees will not receive a badge ring indicating their vaccination status. Unvaccinated employees are expected to follow the policy and wear a mask in hospitals and other facilities where patients are cared for.

Key points to note:

  • Employees are required to complete a flu education module in ALEC (HealthStream) by Oct. 31.
  • Masking is required in all Asante facilities in accordance with the Universal Pandemic Precautions policy.
  • Employees who cannot or choose not to get a flu shot must submit a formal declination to Asante Employee Health by Nov. 30.
  • The same deadline applies for those who got a flu shot elsewhere and need to attest to their vaccination status.

MyChart will soon offer an in-app/online flu attestation and declination process to make complying with the deadline even easier. Employees with myChart accounts will receive an alert when the function is available.

Employees who receive their flu shot from any Asante facility such as an APP clinic, Asante pharmacy or Employee Health, can log onto their MyChart account and attest that they have been immunized. You can also submit an attestation form or declination form to Employee Health.

To ensure that at least 90% of our employees are immunized — the goal Asante has set to ensure “herd immunity” — dozens of employees are participating in the clinics and rounding on various work units and departments to administer the vaccine to small groups.

It is important to note that employees who report flu-like symptoms are tested for both influenza and COVID-19, which could prolong the time it takes to be cleared to return to work. A flu shot can help prevent that added complication.

Patients are already being screened for flu, so Asante Infection Prevention encourages employees to be immunized well before the flu season starts to help limit the spread of influenza. To learn more, check out the 2022-2023 flu season FAQs.
