Departures, retirement bring hospital staffing changes

Scott Wilber, MD, vice president of Medical Affairs at ARRMC, leaves on May 15 to take a leadership position in his native Ohio and to be closer to his family there. Dr. Wilber holds dual roles at ARRMC and APP, where he oversees the Alternative Access division.

He joined Asante in early 2017 from Akron, Ohio, where he served as an emergency physician. At ARRMC, he was instrumental in developing the Heart Care Clinic as well as a clinical pathway for patients with heart failure, two achievements that have helped Asante lower readmissions. Known for his focused and collegial style, he played a pivotal role in quality efforts that helped Asante earned CMS five-star ratings and 15 Top recognitions.

He has accepted a position as chief medical officer for Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

Courtney Wilson, MD, currently ARRMC’s Emergency Services medical director, succeeds Dr. Wilber as the hospital’s vice president of Medical Affairs. In her new role, she oversees the positions of ARRMC ED medical director, Asante director of Resource Management and ARRMC manager of Cancer Research as well as ARRMC providers in the hospitalist, intensivist and palliative care programs. She will report to Jamie Grebosky, MD.

Dr. Wilson joined Asante in 2011 as an attending emergency medicine physician at ARRMC. She became Emergency Services medical director in 2017. Most recently she helped lead ARRMC’s Emergency Department response and preparedness for COVID-19, including establishing an Emergency Department triage tent and various workflows. Dr. Wilson plans to continue practicing clinically in the ARRMC Emergency Department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from Brown University and a medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University. She completed residency training in emergency medicine from the University of Utah.

Eric Loeliger, MD, vice president of Medical Affairs at ATRMC and leader of APP Specialty Services in Grants Pass, will assume oversight of Alternative Access, which includes Asante Urgent Care facilities, walk-in clinics, telemedicine and Asante Work Health.

Dr. Loeliger has been with Asante for 12 years. He began his career as an ATRMC emergency medicine physician, where he later became the ED medical director. He has held his current role as vice president of Medical Affairs since 2015, and he assumed leadership over APP Specialty Services in Grants Pass in September of 2019. Dr. Loeliger continues to practice clinically in the Emergency Department.

Leaders wished Susan Montgomery, vice president of Nursing at AACH, a fond goodbye during the recent Asante Leadership Forum. Montgomery was scheduled to retire in April but delayed her departure to help with the COVID-19 response. Her last day will be May 29. It was announced in January that Amanda Kotler will serve as vice president of Nursing at both ARRMC and AACH.

At Asante Infection Prevention, Melissa Bellm has taken the role of interim manager after Julie Zetterquist’s departure on April 24. Bellm currently is manager of Quality and Accreditation. Renay Carpenter has been promoted to the new position of supervisor for the department. Carpenter was a bedside nurse at ARRMC before joining Infection Prevention in 2018.
