Asante launches new vaccine campaign: “Please help”

Ads, billboard and social media posts are aimed at getting the public to understand the severity of the current crisis.

As hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID patients and stretched beyond capacity, Asante is appealing to the public with a new messaging campaign: “Please help. Get vaccinated.”

The simple ads, featuring an exhausted caregiver in full PPE, reflect the dire circumstances Asante and other health facilities are experiencing as the delta variant continues to spread.

Ads will appear throughout Southern Oregon in newspapers, online and in social media. Asante also has set up a special website with information on how people can get the vaccine.

The ads are a departure from Asante’s previous COVID campaigns, which first sought to educate the public, then to appeal to the community’s desire to return to normal by getting vaccinated.

“The delta variant changed everything,” said Holly Nickerson, vice president of Quality and Patient Safety. “Our hospitals are overburdened, our frontline staff are exhausted. We need the public’s help to ease the pressure and prevent unnecessary deaths. We’re asking people in our community to wear a mask, practice physical distancing and, most important, get vaccinated.”

The current surge of COVID cases is likely to grow, according to a model by Oregon Health & Science University scientist Peter Graven. The model, which is not a prediction but an estimation, shows the caseload in Southern Oregon peaking around Sept. 4. At the peak, Asante may need as many as 250 hospital beds for COVID patients alone unless vaccinations begin to increase.

To date, about 66% of Asante employees are vaccinated; 57% in Jackson County and 50% in Josephine County.

Asante…show some leadership! You are encouraging the public to get vaccinated to relieve stress on your care facilities yet only 50% of Josephine Asante employees are vaccinated. Require it! What kind of an example are you setting? Crazy! There seems to be a complete lack of leadership at Asante!

Don, thanks for your passionate response. You may not be aware, but in the State of Oregon, we have been unable as a health care employer to require ANY vaccinations (including flu, COVID-19 etc.) of health care workers because of a law that has been in effect for decades. You may see more information on this in the coming days and weeks.

  • That employee in the photo looks like they’re both exhausted AND saying a prayer.
