Traveling abroad this summer? Asante has you covered

Summer is just around the corner, and if you’re planning a trip outside of the United States, it’s good to know that if you’re enrolled in the Asante medical plan, you have access to inpatient and outpatient hospital care and physician services.

It’s part of BlueCross BlueShield Global Core.

When you need health care outside of the United States or its territories, follow these steps:

• Always carry your current member ID card. If you don’t have one, you can request one at regence.com or by calling (888) 344-8235.
• If you need emergency medical care outside the United States, go to the nearest hospital.
• If you’re admitted, call the BlueCross BlueShield Global Core Center at (800) 810-BLUE (2583) or call collect at (804) 673-1177.
• For nonemergency medical care, call the BlueCross BlueShield Global Core Center. The center will facilitate hospitalization (if necessary) at a BlueCross BlueShield Global Core hospital or give information on physicians. Staff is available around the clock.
• You can also download the BlueCross BlueShield Global Core mobile app. If you use the app outside of the United States, rates from your wireless provider may apply.

You will only be responsible for out-of-pocket expenses such as any applicable deductible, copayment, coinsurance and noncovered services for your inpatient care. For outpatient hospital care or physician services, you will be responsible for paying the hospital or physician at the time of service. You must then complete an international claim form and send it to the BlueCross BlueShield Global Core Service Center for reimbursement of covered services.
