Spotlight on Asante Rehabilitation Services

From Ashland to Medford, inpatient to outpatient, and head to toe, this service is everywhere.

Mike Mehl, manager of Rehabilitation Services for 23 years, is a well-known face around Asante’s Medford campus. He can be seen every morning making rounds in the busy Inpatient Rehabilitation office and our Inpatient Rehabilitation Center while therapists prepare for the day.

However, do you know where Mehl is in the afternoons?

If you are an Asante employee who had a total knee arthroplasty, you were likely to have been treated by Mehl at outpatient rehab on Black Oak Drive.

Asante Rehabilitation Services covers a range of areas and locations with an Acute Inpatient Therapy department, an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center (IRC), an Inpatient/Outpatient Pediatric Assessment Clinic and outpatient therapy services.

“Our highly skilled specialty teams of physical and occupational therapists treat everything from pelvic pain and incontinence, hand injuries, lymphedema, neurological problems, post-amputation care, pediatrics, wheelchair assessments and driver’s simulation testing,” Mehl said.

In addition, the outpatient orthopedic team treats the full gamut of orthopedic issues, including back and neck pain, post-surgical rehabilitation for spinal and extremity conditions, strains and sprains, balance therapy and vestibular issues. Pool therapy is also available, and treatment is always one-on-one with a licensed therapist.

The outpatient speech language pathology team of four SLPs treats both pediatric patients and adult clients. Diagnoses include neurological issues, head and neck cancer, speech delays, stuttering and swallowing dysfunction.

“We are Team Asante and are here to provide your outpatient therapy needs through the skilled hands and analysis that comes from experience and training,” Mehl says. “Several of our therapists not only have at least 20 years of experience, but also have specialty program certifications from the United States, Canada and Australia. One of our therapists even teaches internationally!”

Asante Rehabilitation at ARRMC and AACH currently employs 66 PTs and PTAs, 26 OTs and OTAs, 11 SPLs and 12 rehabilitation techs. Of course, we would not be able to run a clinic without the strong support of our 11 referral, scheduling and insurance specialists. Matthew McEwan provides support as the Inpatient Rehab Supervisor and Sandy Bleth holds the business together as the Rehabilitation business manager.

Asante Outpatient Rehabilitation Services accepts a range of insurances, motor vehicle accident claims and workers’ compensation claims through SAIF. A physician referral is required, (541) 789-4255.

“Just like the main hospital, our outpatient services continued throughout the past year when other clinics were closed,” Mehl said. “Asante Outpatient Rehabilitation Services is here for you too!”
