As part of Asante’s aim to meet the growing need for cancer services in the Rogue Valley, the Helen K. Spears Cancer Center on the ATRMC campus has added a new addition that nearly triples the size of the center to 35,000 square feet.
Like the Heimann Cancer Center in Medford, the Spears Cancer Center offers a range of services under one roof, including specialty care from Hematology Oncology Associates, which staffs a clinic within the center.
The need for broadened cancer services in Josephine County has been especially acute since over 80% of cancer treatment involves outpatient care. Instead of having to travel to multiple sites, cancer patients in Grants Pass and surrounding areas can now receive radiation therapy, chemotherapy infusions and lab and clinical pharmacy services in one spot.
The two-story center includes:
- Specialty cancer care from Hematology Oncology Associates.
- A top-floor infusion center with 34 bays.
- Radiation therapy.
- Dedicated oncology pharmacy services.
- On-site laboratory services.
- A diagnostic CT scanner.
- Support services such as nurse navigators, social workers, dietitians and more.
The expansion cost $15.2 million, funded partly through donations to Asante Foundation. The original Spears Cancer Center was built in 2001.
