Smullin donation center to close
First, I want to say how proud I am to witness the outpouring of support that has occurred with our Asante family helping one another through the devastating fires we have had. We have literally helped hundreds of individuals in our community to try to get through this first phase of recovery following the wildfires that tore through our valley. Truly this shows that community lives here and we are here to support each other as well as our larger community.
While the Smullin Center has worked well as a donation site for us, we now need to turn it back into an education center as we move ahead. We will begin this process this weekend, with the last day to come through or request items being this Sunday, Sept. 27. Between now and then it will remain open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
All Asante employees impacted by the fires and those friends and family members who are being supported by Asante staff are encouraged to come by and get what you need to continue to rebuild. We only ask that those family and friends be accompanied by the Asante employee when they visit the Smullin for security purposes.
As we close the donation center, all of the food and household items will be taken to the ARRMC Food Pantry. All Asante staff are welcome to continue to use this resource. Donations are always welcomed to the food pantry, as the need never ends. Just bring your donated items to the Guest Services office at ARRMC.
Remaining clothing, bedding, toys, etc., will be donated to local charitable programs including Every Child and Family Nurturing Center to help foster children and those foster families who care for them and the Rogue Retreat which serves primarily those who find themselves homeless. We encourage those of you who still have things to donate to support these and other similar programs in our valley.
Thank you again for showing how incredible we are as an organization and a community.
