Entries came from all over Asante and all over the globe, but one captured the spirit of the Rogue Valley.

Terry Croft

Asante employees entered dozens of photos into the A View from My Window summer photo contest. They came from Portugal, Italy, France and New York City. They showed beautiful views and pets — lots of pets.

But it was Terry Croft’s image that stood out in the judges’ minds, making her entry the contest winner. Croft, a patient service representative at APP’s internal medicine clinic in Ashland, snapped this photo of her sister, who lost her home in the 2020 Almeda fire. The pair were attending the Art of the Fire exhibit in the burned out 1942 Malgrem Garage building on Talent Avenue.

“The image shows the devastation caused by the fire, but the bright red umbrella conveys the life that rises from the ashes,” one judge said. The art exhibit featured work by local artists inside the building’s shell. The site, which housed Asian antiquities before the fire, is being rebuilt.

As winner, Croft receives a $50 Tango gift card.

Honorable mentions

Shawna Dawson, staff assistant, Resource ManagementShawna Dawson, a staff assistant in Resource Management, captured this rare double rainbow from her backyard in Central Point. A relatively new Asante employee, Dawson was struck by the meaning. “Double rainbows symbolize new beginnings and transformations,” she said.

The judges agreed. “The rainbow moving toward the single impact color in the image, which shows the hope for growth in this person’s new life.”

Nicole Doran, Epic ambulatory analystNicole Doran’s view from her boyfriend’s house in Twisp, Washington, stood out for the beauty of the landscape. Doran, an Epic analyst, took the shot in late August. In the foreground is the couple’s garden. The background reveals the North Cascades, which border the Methow Valley.

The  photo will likely send readers to maps of Central Washington to plan their next vacation.

Mujahid Rizvi, MD, medical director, Asante Cancer CentersIt’s one of the most photographed landmarks in America, but the Statue of Liberty takes on added meaning in turbulent times. Mujahid Rizvi, MD, medical director of Asante’s cancer centers, took this shot from aboard a ferry in August.

The sight inspired him to include a portion of a quote from the late U.S. Rep. Barbara Jordan: “The greatest threat is the inattention of the people of this country to liberty. If we don’t attend to it … it can gradually suffer an erosion just like the statue itself suffered some erosion. You have to attend to liberty.”
