Neither snow nor ice kept this provider from his appointment
The recent snowfall that blanketed Ashland made walking conditions treacherous. One patient who arrived for her appointment at APP–Family Medicine on Tuesday worried she wouldn’t be able to make it from the parking lot into the clinic. She called inside to tell the team her car was snowbound.
Medical assistant Shayla Peterson put on snow boots and headed out to the patient’s car in hopes that she could bring the patient in with a wheelchair. The snow proved too deep for a wheelchair, but the clinic staff was determined to see the patient in person.
Don Walker, NP-C., said, “Well, I used to be a carhop with skates, so I’ve got some experience car-side.” A few minutes later Walker was in his boots and consulting with the patient through the driver’s window. Asked why he didn’t schedule a telemedicine visit instead, Walker said: “If the mailman can deliver mail in any weather, I can care for patients in the snow.”
