10 things to know about Jeff Stein

After a long career overseeing materials for an aviation company, Stein now brings his skills to Asante’s Materials Management Department.

As part of a new, ongoing series, Asante News features leaders who have recently joined the organization or employees who have been promoted to a manager, director or executive position.

After a 28-year career with Erickson, an aviation company in Central Point, Jeff Stein joined the world of health care. He brings with him deep experience in materials and supply-chain management, which made him the perfect choice to oversee Asante’s broad materials management and purchasing functions.

An Ashland native, Stein is an avid outdoorsman and world traveler. He has been happily  married to his wife, Kim, a teacher and education specialist, for 20 years. The couple has two sons: Cameron, a sophomore at the University of Oregon, where he runs track and cross country, and Nathan, a senior at Ashland High School, who is also a runner.

Here are 10 things to know about Stein:

What he thought he’d be when he grew up: “A helicopter pilot.”

Unusual past job: “I was a ski instructor in college.”

Travels: “I have traveled to five continents: Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Australia. The highlights were seeing the Taj Mahal in India, the Amazon river and rainforest in Brazil, the Colosseum in Rome and the food anywhere in Italy.”

On his bucket list: “Traveling to the two continents I have not been to yet, Africa and Antarctica.

Favorite animal: “I like dogs.”

Cuisine he can’t live without: “Thai food.”

Recent accomplishment: “I just completed my MBA through SOU with two other Asante employees, Sarah Hillyer and Randy McElmurry.”

Hidden talent: “I like to play guitar and sing classic rock ‘n’ roll.”

Hobbies: “I enjoy hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, camping and backpacking. I have been to 13 national parks, including Olympic, Mt. Rainier, Glacier, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Yosemite, Sequoia, King’s Canyon, Death Valley, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches and the Grand Canyon.”

Volunteerism: “Habitat for Humanity.”
