The poignant reason Robert Begg gives to Asante Foundation

Asante Human Resources’ vice president shares the story of his 3-year-old year son, the pediatric room that became a “castle,” and the little boy’s lasting legacy.

When Frank was 6 months old, Robert Begg, vice president of Asante Human Resources, noticed his baby son had a nagging cough. A year later, the diagnosis came. Begg shares the story of Frank’s life, the care he received at Asante Rogue Regional’s Pediatrics Unit, and what prompted Begg and his husband, architect Ken Ogden, to become regular donors to Asante Foundation.

Thank you for sharing your sad story, and for finding a way to make a difference in others’ lives. BTW, Ken did a GREAT job on designing/building Temple Emek Shalom. You two are a blessing to us all.

  • What a heartbreaking and heartwarming story. What a beautiful boy Frank was, and will always be. Sick kids are so brave and resilient. We all have so much to learn from them.

  • Thank you for sharing, Robert. My heart aches for you. As we faced the devastating diagnosis of incurable cancer for my precious 24 year old son Trevor, you supported and encouraged, never mentioning your own heartbreaking loss. I am so thankful for your love, hugs and patience as I navigated my son’s diagnosis and eventual loss of life. You were there for me throughout and I am so thankful for your strength and courage – you give me hope that someday I can also find meaning and provide support for others. Thank you and deepest condolences as I know the grieving never stops. I would like to think that Frank and Trevor are friends, loving us all from their perch above.
