Confessions of a vaccine trial volunteer

Dr. Carl Seger, an emergency physician at ARRMC, raised his hand to be part of the clinical trial for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. He reports back on his experience.

A recent survey of Asante employees found that some are wary of the COVID-19 vaccines. They fear unexpected side effects or undiscovered complications. They worry that the vaccines were rushed to market (they were because of urgent need) and that manufacturers and regulators cut corners (they didn’t).

Carl Seger, MD, an emergency physician at ARRMC, explains how these vaccines work, why our fears are misplaced — and what happened when he volunteered to be a “lab rat” for the Moderna vaccine clinical trial.

This is the best, most concise explanation of the vaccine! Thank you. I received my first injection yesterday, and am eager to get my second. I wish this would be made available to share to the community as I have SO MANY PEOPLE in my circle of family and friends who are refusing to get it, and I am not able to communicate the reasons why so effectively.

I’m happy you were able to get the vaccine. Barclay and I are all in. Barclay’s 91 year old friend just got his today. Let’s hope you can be the example for your friends and family.

  • Great segment! He explained so you can understand, and also gives infection stats. This should go on TV. The “extra piece” was also very cute! Thanks Dr. Seger for all you do!

    Nice job Carl!
Clear and concise–the math weights the scales immensely in favor of getting the vaccination.
