Asante opens COVID-19 collection site in Grants Pass

Asante’s second specimen-collection site serves residents of Josephine County.

Collection siteAsante today opened its second COVID-19 specimen collection site, located near the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center campus on the corner of SW Ramsey Avenue and Ringuette Street.

“The number of people in Josephine County who need to be tested for COVID-19 continues to rise,” said Win Howard, CEO of Asante Three Rivers. “Asante is opening this new collection site so our community members can get the services they need as quickly and conveniently as possible.”

The collection site is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. To have a specimen collected (via a nasal swab), a person must have a valid physician’s order for testing. “This location will collect specimens for diagnostic and screening tests, including pre-surgery and medical procedures at the hospital,” said Susan Cease, manager of Laboratory Services at Asante Three Rivers. “We anticipate collecting anywhere from 30 to 100 specimens a day, depending on demand.”

The turnaround time for test results ranges from 24 to 96 hours, based on the priority of the doctor’s test order. A person does not need to be an Asante patient to be tested; a doctor’s order is accepted from any licensed medical provider.

Asante opened its first mobile collection site in Medford in early March when the pandemic first hit Southern Oregon. This location remains open, serving Jackson County residents. Asante is not offering COVID-19 antibody testing.

To Clarify, Asante is offering COVID-19 antibody testing, but not presently at the TRMC mobile collection site. COVID-19 antibody serum testing can be done via blood draw, at most Asante draw stations. The result turn around time is approximately one week.

Covid Antibody testing is available at some reference labs but the testing is not performed onsite at Asante and cannot be collected at the drive through collection site. There is continued discussion and research around how to interpret and use the antibody test results.

  • What is the name/type of test being used at the drive through collection sites?
Having a little trouble finding that info on line. Specifically, if it was the Flu SC2 Multiplex one.

    Any help offered is appreciated!
