Asante names clinical director for cancer services
Wendy Vaughn, RN, has accepted the role of clinical director of Asante Cancer Services effective Oct. 25.
“Wendy will serve in a dyad leadership role with Brian Murphy, the administrative director of Asante Cancer Services,” said Kristi Blackhurst, vice president of Operations for ARRMC and AACH. “The two will provide operational oversight for cancer services across the Asante system, including overseeing outpatient cancer care in our expanded Spears Cancer Center at ATRMC and soon-to-open Heimann Cancer Center at ARRMC.”
Vaughn’s nursing career spans over three decades in different capacities, settings and specialties. She spent many years working in intensive care and neonatal intensive care before transitioning to 11 years of progressive leadership roles within surgical oncology and outpatient oncology for Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
As Scripps co-branded with MD Anderson for their cancer care service line, Vaughn found a new mission to help cancer patients navigate their journey and find hope in clinical research. Most recently, she served as associate director for Nursing at Cedars-Sinai The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute. Vaughn has also served as School of Nursing faculty for San Diego State University.
She is a self-described “geek” who truly enjoys learning. She thrives in dynamic, multidisciplinary and collaborative environments and looks forward to her new role at Asante. She and her husband, BJ, are the proud parents of a son and daughter and are now enjoying their newly emptied nest with their dog, Raja.
