Asante earns Excellence in Business award

CEO Scott Kelly accepted the award at the virtual gala, which included celebrity cameos by Brett Farve, Chuck Norris and even Carole Baskin.

The Chamber of Medford and Jackson County awarded Asante the Excellence in Business Award for large employers in a virtual ceremony last week. In giving Asante the award, organizers cited the system’s community involvement, including providing $72 million in charity care.

The video event included cameo congratulations from celebrities such as Chuck Norris, Tommy Chong, Tony Hawk and even Carole Baskin of “The Tiger King” fame.

Asante President and CEO Scott Kelly accepted the award standing in front of a gold curtain. He highlighted Asante’s role as Southern Oregon’s largest employer and its deep roots within the community.

“The people we are treating are not just patients, they’re our family, our friends and our neighbors,” he said. “On behalf of Asante, we thank you and we’re proud to be part of this community.”

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre congratulated Kelly in a video message. “The Business Excellence award is like winning the Super Bowl in your world,” he said. “Like football, every player should be a difference-maker. Asante has been a difference-maker in Southern Oregon for many years. Congrats and go, PAC.”

The annual award is given to businesses who set a great example of community involvement and advocacy.
