Alfonso Powers tapped to lead Asante Information Security

Powers’ new role is director of Information Security and chief information security officer for Asante.

Alfonso PowersAlfonso Powers has accepted the role of director of Information Security and information security officer effective Aug. 15. In this role, he will also be leading information security initiatives associated with the Asante Health Network.

Over the past five years, Powers served as manager of Asante ITS Information Security, where he helped lead technical measures to protect Asante and patient information security.

Before joining Asante, Powers worked elsewhere as a director of IT projects and served as IT Manager for an Ashland-based software company. He holds a master’s in information management from Arizona State University.

“Those of you who know Alfonso will recognize that he is hard working, detail oriented, an exceptional communicator and an effective collaborator,” said Lee Milligan, MD, chief information officer. “Those are just the right combination of skills and attributes that will position him well for this new and challenging role.”

Outside of work, Powers enjoys golf, wine tasting and spending time with family. He is married with one daughter who is a junior at OHSU Nursing School.

He succeeds David Kennington, who is moving into a new role with ITS Technical Services.

“I wish to thank David Kennington for his work the past five years as the information security officer,” Dr. Milligan said. “During that time, David effectively led the ITS InfoSec team in their impactful efforts to strengthen the Asante information security posture, implement new tools and weapons to defend our network and educate and train our staff to recognize and report suspicious activity. Cumulatively, these efforts have meaningfully helped bring us better protection against cyber risk.”
