A leadership change for Asante’s cancer service line includes the promotion of a longtime employee.
On March 7, Brian Murphy was named director of Asante Cancer Services and will oversee both the administrative and clinical operations of our cancer-related services.
Previously, oversight of these two areas was split between Murphy and Wendy Vaughn. Vaughn left her position as director of clinical operations of Asante Cancer Services last week.
“With Wendy’s departure, we had the opportunity to review the leadership structure of these departments,” said Win Howard, CEO at Asante Three Rivers. “Brian has the depth of experience and knowledge that will serve our teams and cancer patients well.”
Murphy has served as the administrative director of Asante Cancer Services since October 2021. He was instrumental in overseeing the grand opening of the new Heimann Cancer Center and the reopening of the newly expanded Spears Cancer Center in January 2022.
“Brian is the perfect person for the job,” said oncologist Mujahid Rizvi, MD, medical director of Asante’s cancer centers. “He’s attentive, hard-working, focuses on what’s important, wants what’s best for our patients, and most importantly, is approachable, kind and fair.”
Murphy began his career at Asante in 1999. Before his leadership role in cancer services, he was director of Materials Management for 15 years. In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Murphy played a crucial role in sourcing PPE for Asante’s frontline workers during a global shortage.
