10 things to know about Ryan Jones

From lab courier to ARRMC leadership — with some stops for pizza along the way.

As part of an ongoing series, Asante News features leaders who have recently joined the organization or employees who have been promoted to a manager, director or executive position.

It takes determination, talent and ambition to advance from a lab courier to managing the largest emergency department in Asante’s health system. Enter Ryan Jones, a former home-builder who joined ARRMC’s lab 17 years ago. The former courier and Medford native set a career path that took him back to school to earn a nursing degree, eventually leading him into Asante management.

Here are 10 things to know about Jones:

Jones with daughtersGreatest inspiration: “My father. He represents self-made success and has always demonstrated confident humility.”

Last book read: “What the Dog Saw,” Malcolm Gladwell.

Wanted to grow up to be: “The Maytag repairman.”

Unusual past job: “I built canoes at a local manufacturer for a few years after high school.”

On his bucket list: “Short- to mid-term retirement living in Malaysia or some other exotic location.”

Brush with stardom: “I have a minor voice acting credit on the old PC game called ‘The Seventh Guest,’ so ….”

Memorable travel experience: “I toured Europe with my family for five weeks in the summer before 12th grade. The whole trip was impactful, and those memories are special.”

Food he can’t live without: “Pizza. Also, pizza.”

Favorite TV shows: “‘Freaks and Geeks.’ It only ran for one season, so ‘Friday Night Lights’ as well.”

What he loves about his job: “Advocating for my team and getting to know my peers.”
